Working Together

What’s needed for team members to work well together?

Observations

  • They work toward a shared goal.
  • They are good communicators.
  • They rely on the specific strengths of each team member.
  • They ask for help and help each other out.
  • They critique the work and don’t blame each other.
  • They respect each other.

I could go on. I’ve worked on many teams, some much more effective than others. The best teams work in a state of flow. The team members inspire each other. They grow together.

Leaders can help bring the right people together. They can set the vision. They can model behaviors that can help the team to flourish.

Many books have been written to help make people better leaders. This makes sense. I’m sure we’ve all worked with some not-so-great leaders. How much responsibility does a leader have in creating a great team? How does the culture of an organization play a role?

I’m wondering if I have anything unique to say about making teams stronger. Is this a topic for me to return to?

I’m sure I’ll have a better idea when I’m not so tired!
