It’s important to get away from your typical daily routine.
Even when we do work that we love, it’s good to take a break. This is especially true when we use the time to connect with family and friends.
I just got back from a fun weekend trip to Breckenridge with family. And we made some great memories. Kris found a bottle of his favorite beer in the world, Chimay Grand Reserve. He and I visited an O2 bar for the first time. We enjoyed walking around the town.
Vacation days are special. They hold a larger-than-life allure.
I remember the first time Sanjay ever went swimming from a beach in Puerto Rico. I remember celebrating Bastille Day twice in France. I remember attending the Montreux Jazz Festival with Eduardo. I remember visiting the Sedlec Ossuary with Brett, a friend of mine who worked at a theater in Prague.
I’ll never forget when Karilyn and I celebrated our honeymoon on the Big Island in Hawaii. What a joyous adventure! And I’ll never forget how I did my best to ruin a trip to Las Vegas with my mom and sister. Because sometimes I behave abominably.
Vacations often stand out. At least for me, they are a great example of The Power of Moments: Why Certain Experiences Have Extraordinary Impact, another book by Chip and Dan Heath.
I also let vacations act as a “reset”. Sometimes we need to reboot our computers. Vacations can provide a way for us to reboot our lives.
So don’t feel guilty for wanting vacations! Try to enjoy them to the fullest!
