Anna Nalick has a great song that includes the following lyrics.

2 AM and she calls me ’cause I’m still awake
“Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?
I don’t love him, Winter just wasn’t my season”

2 AM and I’m still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it’s no longer inside of me
Threatening the life it belongs to

Breathe (2 AM), by Anna Nalick

Here’s the thing. It’s not very often that I’m up at 2 AM because I haven’t slept yet. Sometimes, I’m in bed as early as 9 PM. I’m almost always in bed by 10 PM and asleep by 11 PM.

It’s more likely for me to be up at 2 AM because I’ve already got five hours of sleep and some dream I can’t shake tugs at me until I’m fully awake.

This morning, I woke up at 3 AM. This isn’t particularly unusual. If I’m lucky, I get seven hours of sleep at night. On days like today, it’s closer to five. Which means I’m probably going to struggle to keep my eyes open after eating lunch today. Oh, well!

Since I’m awake, I might as well do something worthwhile.
