As a signal, I’m convinced that whiskers are better than teeth.
Imagine that you’ve gone one day without shaving or brushing your teeth. And let’s assume you don’t remember what you did this morning.
How can you know for sure whether or not you shaved or brushed your teeth?
Your whiskers know!
If you shaved, you can reach up to your cheeks and feel a smooth surface (assuming your razor has a decent edge). Your whiskers know!
If you brushed your teeth, maybe your tongue can detect the difference, but if you look in the mirror, chances are your teeth won’t provide conclusive proof.
Obviously, if it’s been many days since you’ve brushed your teeth, you’re going to know. Stinky breath is a somewhat reliable indicator.
But we live in an age where we want more immediate feedback.
I get it.
Some people don’t grow facial hair as quickly as others. Some people ignore the signals whiskers provide by growing beards. But if you’re a man who shaves almost every day, your whiskers are GOLD.
Appreciate them! Use them to decide whether or not you need to brush your teeth.
Seriously.
