This is one of my favorite movies ever made!
The first time I saw it in the theater, I was late.
So, they’re already making their way across the water, heading for the Cliffs of Insanity.
While I didn’t know what was happening, I was instantly drawn in. I was loving every minute of it. Every single minute!
Here’s a trailer for the uninitiated.
It’s worth asking the following question. What makes this movie so amazingly good? Here’s a partial answer.
It begins with the script. From the beginning, we care about these characters, believe in the magic of their adventures, and can’t wait to see what happens to them.
It continues with Rob Reiner’s outstanding directing. He strikes the perfect balance between bringing the make-believe world to life and letting it infuse the real world with things that matter.
Then, there’s the acting. We get extraordinary performances from every single cast member, from Carey Elwes and Robin Wright to Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Christopher Guest, Chris Sarandon, Carol Kane, Billy Crystal, Peter Falk, Fred Savage, and more.
The production quality is consistently high. The movie has a truly timeless quality. The story lives on long after the last frame is shown on a screen.
In watching The Princess Bride, we understand why making movies matters.
