I joined Toastmasters soon after I started working at Terumo BCT. Our meetings were at noon, once a week, and it was a nice break from my usual work.
I enjoyed getting practice giving talks. I enjoyed getting to know the other people who regularly attended. I enjoyed getting and giving feedback in a supportive environment.
Eventually, fewer and fewer people attended the meetings, and we decided to shut down our corporate group. This happened during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Even if the meetings were still happening, it’s unlikely I would manage to attend many. And if I did, it’s unlikely I would be giving many talks.
There was a time when it just worked out. And I miss that time.
If it was important enough, I could always find another Toastmasters group that meets in the evenings or on weekends. I’m sure I would get a warm welcome if I did.
But priorities change. My role at the company has changed, and I’m not likely to rejoin Toastmasters anytime soon.
Nevertheless, I miss the magic of what we were doing there. I have fond memories of my time with Toastmasters. I hope others do too!
