Rifftrax is awesome!
I don’t know how many movies we’ve watched on Mystery Science Theater 3000. I do know that Rifftrax is carrying on that fine tradition.
Over the past few days, we’ve watched Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi again, with Rifftrax.
What fun!
Michael Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett are awesome. I can truthfully say that 41 to 47 years is long enough for me not to get offended at anyone making fun of Star Wars.
Sure, I could chuckle at the original Mad Libs magazines about Star Wars. And I loved watching Spaceballs, which came out in 1987. I even enjoyed the Star Wars humor in Clerks (1994).
But it took me a bit longer to watch the original Star Wars movies with Rifftrax. They are such a touchstone of awesomeness from my childhood that I didn’t want to tarnish those memories.
As I watched, I sometimes found myself ignoring the Rifftrax commentary and getting caught up in the story! But I caught enough of it to laugh out loud many times.
While I am impressed by original storytelling, I’m all for watching more movies with Rifftrax!
