We released our first full-length movie in 2006, and it’s hard to believe we’re approaching the twentieth anniversary. It’s already been twenty years since we first started working on it!
The trailer is on IMDB. Here are a few of the things I remember from the production.
It took us over four months to shoot the movie. Because so many people were involved, scheduling everyone was a nightmare. We shot the movie on evenings and weekends.
It wasn’t easy for the actors to keep their appearance the same for so long. I remember when Clyde died his hair a shade of red that made him look like a clown! Although he eventually toned it down, you can see variations in his hair color throughout the movie.
Working with Mark and Dave was one of the best learning experiences of my life! They both had worked on plenty of other movies before joining our crew. Without them, the movie never would have looked so good.
We rented a helicopter that allowed Dave to get some great aerial shots. He was strapped in, leaning out of the helicopter’s side with the camera. While it may have been a foolish expenditure, it was an experience he’ll never forget!
Although David wasn’t thrilled with one of my casting choices, I stuck to my original choice and was happy with the result. We did need to replace one of the actors. After bringing bad vibes to the project, she swore the production would be cursed without her. And maybe it was. Eventually, we got through it all!
Karilyn and I went to a conference where I was hoping to find people who could help us distribute the movie. I got some feedback that reminded me our movie was not for everyone. At one point, I was so discouraged that I cried in front of a near stranger who was nice enough to offer us his support.
I am grateful to everyone who worked with us on the project. I’m tempted to put together a memory book of some sort. I want to find a good way of celebrating the twentieth anniversary.
