Watching the movie Blink was one of my favorite experiences at the Telluride Film Festival.
Waiting in line, I didn’t know if I would get in. So when I did, it was a thrill just knowing I would be able to see the movie.
The movie is about a family that decides to travel throughout the world when they find out three of the four kids will be losing their sight. The parents decide there is no better way to fill their kids’ visual memory while they can still see.
It’s an extraordinary documentary!
After the screening, the family sat down in front of the large audience to answer questions. The kids were shy. They gave answers to their parents who translated from French to English.
I asked, “How did the project begin?”
The director read about this family in a newspaper article. He got in touch to see if a small crew could join them on their trip. The parents agreed to let the cameras roll throughout their adventures.
One of the scary moments during their trip was getting stuck on a gondola for over nine hours before being rescued. While at the film festival, they took the gondola between Telluride and Mountain Village, and it stopped for about five minutes! One of the kids re-enacted his terror for laughs.
By watching the movie and listening to the Q&A session, I felt like I really got to know these wonderful and courageous people.
We all can try to make the best of life during dark times!
