I have many heroes. I’m not sure if that’s the right word.
There are many people who I respect and admire for doing something extraordinary. A very large number of people!
At the top of this collection are the people I officially identify here as my heroes. These people have touched my life in a significant way. It doesn’t mean they are “more extraordinary” than countless others.
Today, I learned that Donald Sutherland passed away.
I’ve enjoyed a lot of the roles he’s played. The following immediately come to mind.
- Mr. Bennet in Pride & Prejudice
- President Snow in The Hunger Games
- Michel Dorn in Crossing Lines
- Agar in The Great Train Robbery
- and more!
What a great actor!
Yet, if I were to include Donald Sutherland on my heroes page, I would need to include so many other great actors: Keifer Sutherland, Gary Oldman, Holly Hunter, Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and more and more and more…
So, I try to be selective. That in no way diminishes my respect for the many other people who I recognize as being extraordinary in one way or another.
It’s important to have heroes of all kinds!
