Clarissa Pinkola Estés

It’s been many years since I read Women Who Run with Wolves. I’m tempted to read it again. While I remember how much I loved it, I don’t remember some of the specifics. It has a lot to do with what makes us human.

“Within every woman there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. Her name is Wild Woman, but she is an endangered species. Though the gifts of wildish nature come to us at birth, society’s attempt to ‘civilize’ us into rigid roles has plundered this treasure, and muffled deep, life-giving messages of our own souls. Without Wild Woman, we become overdomesticated, fearful, uncreative, trapped.”

– Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run with Wolves

While Clarissa Pinkola Estés is best known for this book, I’ve recently had the opportunity to listen to several others on Audible.

Here are a few of my favorites.

And there are so many more!

I recommend listening to her books on Audible because she is an amazing narrator. She has a gift for telling stories in a way that makes them come alive with her warm and vibrant voice.

I love how she connects myths and legends to Jungian archetypes. She helps us learn more about ourselves by exploring many different storytelling themes.

She is an author whom I look up to as a “Wise Woman”. She makes the world a better place by sharing her passions and talents with abandon. If only we could each learn to do the same!

She is one of my heroes, and she continues to inspire me.
