I’m unsure why I’ve waited so long to write about Elton John, another of my heroes. He is an outstanding piano player, composer, musician, singer, and performer!
If I could only ever listen to one person’s music for the rest of my life, I would choose to listen to Elton John’s music. I love the variety of his songs and how they resonate with me.
I’ve been learning to play Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. I like that the song is biographical, and I’m happy I’ve discovered the sequel, The Captain and the Kid.
Here are a few of my favorite Elton John songs. I’m putting them in alphabetical order as it’s too difficult for me to rank them.
- The Ballad of Danny Bailey
- Can You Feel the Love Tonight?
- Candle in the Wind
- Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
- The Greatest Discovery
- Hakuna Matata
- How I Know You
- Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
- Pinball Wizard
- Rocket Man
- Sacrifice
- Someone Saved My Life Tonight
- This Song Has No Title
- Tiny Dancer
- Writing
- Your Song
You have to admit. That’s quite the collection of amazing songs! And there are so many others…
In February 2019, Karilyn and I were thrilled to see Elton John perform live. It was a night I’ll never forget. He shuffled toward his piano a bit slowly, his age showing. As soon as he started playing and singing, he lit up the stage, so alive that we all felt we could live forever.
