Esther Perel

I became aware of Esther Perel when I saw her first book in the Boulder Bookstore. In 2017 and 2018, I worked at the Galvanize offices on Walnut Street. I enjoyed walking up and down Pearl Street during my lunch hour.

As an aside, the Boulder Bookstore is one of my favorites. It houses three large floors full of a huge variety of interesting books. It’s easy to get lost in the ideas that permeate the building!

Mating in Captivity: Unlocking Erotic Intelligence caught my eye for two reasons. (1) I’ve always been interested in human relationships. (2) The title struck my imagination, and I thought I could learn something relevant, which happened.

It wasn’t long before I read her second book, The State of Affairs: Rethinking Infidelity. While I liked the stories she shared in these books, I also appreciated her clearly expressed insights into relationships.

I listened to her podcast Where Shall We Begin? and her TED talks. She became one of my heroes.

Her work is infused with playfulness, which resonates deeply with me.
