Casablanca

One of my favorite movies of all time is Casablanca.

I decided to watch it again to celebrate Father’s Day.

Of course, we’ve only been making movies since about 1874, or maybe 1888. I can hardly believe we’ve only been making movies for about 136 years!

Here are a few of the reasons why I love Casablanca.

1. I’m a romantic. I understand why Rick chooses to set Ilsa free.
2. I believe in doing what we can. While most of us don’t find ourselves in such extraordinary circumstances, I would hope that I might make choices similar to Rick’s if it came to it.
3. The pacing is fantastic! There is not a single wasted scene. We understand everything relevant to the story.
4. The story is extraordinary! This goes without saying.
5. The themes of love, sacrifice, and courage are timeless.

I don’t know what makes for a good human being. I do know what makes for a good story.
