I like that we can tell stories about some of our best and worst experiences. It’s a way to share something about who we are.
I remember the time I got to visit Venice.
I met up with a couple of young women who were also visiting Venice for a day or two. Although we had never met before, we were all there for the same reason. We wanted to enjoy our first visit to the city, soaking up as much of the atmosphere as possible.
We rode a gondola to San Marco Plaza, which quickly became one of my favorite places. We visited St. Mark’s Basilica. I was impressed by the grandeur. Then, we got on a boat to visit a nearby island. I never would have known to do this without hearing about it from my new friends.
We visited an exquisite glass-blowing factory in Murano. We spent a bit of time on the island before taking the boat back to San Marco Plaza. In the evening, we listened to the beautiful music street musicians played while we ate at an outdoor cafe.
Everything was new. Each experience was exciting. We were fully in the moment as we got to know each other. It was an unexpected shared experience, with other travelers who were there for the same reason I was.
After leaving Venice, I don’t think I ever saw either of the young women again. It was just a single day that we had together, and it was lovely.
