Billy Joel

Recently, maybe in 2019, I got to see Billy Joel perform live, and It was a great show!

He’s still one of my heroes.

The reason that I’m writing this post today is that I just stumbled upon a YouTube video of Billy Joel listing his five favorite Billy Joel songs for Stephen Colbert.

For the record, here’s his list.

  1. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant
  2. She’s Right On Time
  3. You May Be Right
  4. And So It Goes
  5. Vienna
Billy Joe’s Five Favorite Billy Joel Songs

And I have to agree with his top pick! Scenes from an Italian Restaurant is my personal favorite Billy Joel song.

There are many reasons I like Billy Joel.

I started listening to his music when I was a kid. Because some of his songs (including Captain Jack and The Entertainer) sounded a bit edgy to me, listening to them made me feel like I was more grown-up than I was at the time.

He is one of the few songwriters I know who writes great lyrics and great music. I love that his songs often tell stories that are easy to visualize. I love that he’s an inspiring piano player. And I love that he’s a fun performer to watch live.

I’m also impressed with the variety of music he’s written throughout his collection of twelve pop studio albums. He’s played with many different styles of music and produced many different-sounding hit songs.

Finally, when I listen to his songs, I remember the people in my life who have also enjoyed his music and the good times we’ve shared.
