For as long as I can remember, musical theater has been an important part of my life.
When I was a kid, I listened to Paint Your Wagon and Camelot over and over again while in a bean bag chair, with large headphones on either side of my head.
Through the years, I fell in love with several other musicals, including the following.
- Jesus Christ Superstar
- Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
- Evita
- Cats
- Oliver
- Fiddler on the Roof
- Chess
- Fame
- Phantom of the Opera
- Les Miserables
- Cabaret
- Rent
- Into the Woods
- Chicago
- In the Heights
- Hamilton
- Tick, Tick… Boom!
- and so many more…
Mary Poppins was the first movie I saw in a theater. While my mom was upset that I fell asleep during the show, I still enjoyed it.
I watched an amazing production of Hair during college (after not getting cast in the show).
I had the opportunity to work behind the scenes on Evita and Sweeney Todd while I was in graduate school.
I performed in several musical reviews with Magic Moments. I performed in the ensemble of a magical production of Chess.
I even spent a fair amount of time attempting to write my own musical!
I’m not sure why musicals have brought me so much joy through the years. All I know is that I’m beyond grateful for having the opportunity to experience the wonders of musical theater.
