There are several reasons why Einstein is celebrated as the most well-known physicist. He revolutionized physics with his work on the photoelectric effect, his special theory of relativity, and his general theory of relativity.
The impact of this work cannot be overstated.
Of course, he made other contributions to physics, including work on Brownian motion, the structure of the universe, statistical mechanics, radiation, and quantum theory. Later, he attempted to find a way to unify gravity with the other forces of nature, an effort that remains incomplete to this day.
In addition to his work in physics, Einstein shared many of his insights with a large audience. He thought deeply about philosophy and our role in society.
Two of my favorite books by Einstein are The Meaning of Relativity and Out of My Later Years. The first Season of Genius does a good job of giving some insight into Albert Einstein’s life.
Einstein is one of my heroes for two main reasons. (1) I’ve experienced immense joy in learning about his contributions to physics and sharing this with others. (2) I admire him for using his popularity as a way of trying to make this world a better place.
