When you love someone, you make sacrifices for that person. This is huge. It’s something that matters. You do things that you would not do except for the fact that you love this person. It’s true for parents and siblings and children and significant others. It can also be true for friends.
We need to connect with others. It’s part of the human condition. Sometimes, we put the needs of others before our own. Again, this is huge.
Yet we don’t do it because we think the needs of the other person matter more than our own needs. We do it because we want to give others the gift of knowing that they are not alone.
Loneliness is an epidemic. Too many people in this world feel lost and disconnected. Too many people feel sad and frustrated and inadequate.
That’s part of the human condition. We can’t always feel happy and fulfilled. Feeling such things is a gift. And it is a gift that we can share. We can let others know WHY we are feeling grateful.
We can tell our brothers and sisters that it’s not about the fancy home in the suburbs or the “oh-so-classy car”. It’s not about the “curb-side appeal”. It’s not about the traditions that try to make sure everything is “just-so”.
It’s about the journey. It’s about the uncertainty. It’s about trying to find something different than what everyone else expects. It’s about TRAVELING. It’s about taking time off work. It’s about PLAYING. It’s about exploration. It’s about finding something NEW.
It’s about celebrating Hanukkah when all you’ve ever known is celebrating Christmas. It’s about dancing Bachata, even though your grandparents only danced foursquare.
It’s about living the LIFE that truly matters to you. That’s why Love Is Big.
