Drifting

I often feel engaged when I have a creative project that I’m actively working on. I feel like I’m doing something important, even if it will only impact a few people.

When I am not actively working on a creative project, I feel like I’m on a boat in the ocean, drifting up and down with the waves.

I like being in the ocean. I don’t mind drifting. It’s just that I miss playing a more active role.

Now that I think about it, the same is true at work. I would rather be busy and engaged, solving problems and making progress. When I don’t have much work to do, I get restless.

It’s okay to be drifting for a while, just not too long.

I very much like the idea of “going with the flow”. When I’m moving in the right direction, I don’t want to make big changes. I don’t want to over-correct if the direction is only slightly off.

I want to make it easy to do what’s best. And this tends to require a bit more effort than just drifting.
