Starting from Scratch

We all depend on each other for inspiration.

Even if we don’t do research for a bit of writing, we depend on everything that we’ve learned previously throughout our lives. By the time that we are able to write a blog post, we’ve been filled with countless ideas from the people in our lives.

What I’m saying is that it’s not possible to write anything “from scratch”.

And that’s okay.

We can come up with a topic without being prompted. We can avoid doing Google searches as we create content. We can even spout nonsense! We just can’t start from scratch.

(We could use AI. As you know, I’ve already said that’s not what I’m doing here!)

So, if we can’t start from scratch, is it possible to have a truly original idea? Yes! At least, Adam Grant seems to think so. He wrote a book on the topic.

Here’s the reason why. The world is always changing. The pace of technological progress is accelerating. Therefore, human beings are encountering situations we’ve never seen before.

Evolution is slow. I don’t think the range of our feelings has changed much during recent times. However, our world is constantly changing. And we must adapt.

While we can’t start from scratch, we can use our unique experiences as a springboard to present something original.
