Christmas Morning

This morning, my daughter was excited to get up to see if Santa Claus had been to our home. Did he bring her a crib for her baby doll?

Yes, he did!

She said, “I got to wake up Mom. Mom needs to see it… I LOVE IT!”

As a parent, I treasure moments like this.

I remember the excitement of Santa leaving gifts for me when I was a kid. Instead of waking up to find the gifts on Christmas morning, we would go to my grandparent’s house, where my uncles and aunts and cousins (on my Dad’s side) would gather.

The adults would drink too much alcohol while I played with my cousins. Santa was sneaky. We didn’t know when he would show up. And I always wanted to see him. Instead, the doorbell would ring, and we would open the door to find several black plastic bags full of gifts just outside the door.

One or two of the adults would bring the bags into the house, and everyone would watch as we opened our gifts. So much fun!

I’m glad my daughter gets to experience a bit of that excitement today.
