Today, I’m thinking about the musical Chess.
I’m forever grateful for the opportunity to perform in a local production of Chess in 2006. Here is John Moore’s review of our Next Stage production.
It’s not that Chess is a great musical. It aspires to be great!
It has a lot of great songs.
- Anthem
- Someone Else’s Story
- I Know Him So Well
- Where I Want to Be
- Pity the Child
- Nobody’s Side
- Heaven Help My Heart
- and more
More importantly, it lives and breathes as a complete production. Its overall value is greater than the sum of its parts.
Why am I thinking about Chess? I don’t know. I think about a lot of good musical productions. I even think about turning Chess into a movie!
Do I think it would be the most successful movie musical of all time? Of course, not!
Still, I will always love the amazing lyrics by Tim Rice, who is one of my heroes.
And this musical will always have a special place in my heart!
