When it comes to doing vs. being, I’m more of a Doing kind of a guy.
I believe that just about every human is worth loving just for Being alive. Still, I admire the people in this world who manage to DO significant things.
Raising kids is significant. Teaching and leading can be significant. Playing is very significant.
Laughing is fun. Watching movies is great. Expressing the subleties of our lives is important.
Here’s what I believe: We’re all in this together. Each of us may not have enough influence to make big changes, but we can ALL aspire to DO things that matter.
I’ve mentioned this before.
Doing can happen in a variety of contexts. Olympic athletes can DO the work needed to earn gold and silver medals. Company leaders can DO some of the work needed to increase shareholder value.
Working toward the Common Good is, perhaps, the best approach we can take, both individually and as a species, toward DOING.
Here’s the thing: I LOVE people who are more into the Being aspect of life than the Doing aspect.
It’s just that Doing remains a viable path for me!
