Underwhelmed

I’m feeling underwhelmed.

On July 4, 2025, people in the USA are celebrating Independence Day.

I’m thrilled for the people who are enjoying the revelry.

I hear the firecrackers from China, and I think of the tariffs that may make them scarce next year.

Mostly, I’m upset about the Big Beautiful Bill that is going to kill more Americans than (9/11).

What makes America great is a concern for the Common Good. This administration doesn’t care about that. Democracy should be about politics reflecting the desires of most Americans. The times that we’re witnessing demonstrate how far we have to go.

I can’t imagine very many Americans are thrilled about the contents of this Big Beautiful Bill. While some may not know just how bad it is, history is going to remember this day.

Passing this bill is a sad way to celebrate the ideals that forged our country during the American Revolutionary War.

Previously, I’ve written about being an Optimist. While I haven’t changed my identity in this regard, I am acutely aware of how far we’ve fallen and how much work remains to be done.

Let’s do the work to be able to celebrate the Fourth of July with more dignity.
